do you ever feel so overwhelmed that you don’t want to do anything? yeah, me too.
it hit me today: my job isn’t to make it rain—it’s to prepare the ground.
i don’t know about you, but sometimes my mind starts spinning before i even get out of bed. the moment i open my eyes, it’s like my to-do list is already shouting.
client projects. deadlines. unanswered emails. personal goals.
that lingering voice whispering, “you’re behind again.”
and if you’re in a season of transition—you get it.
you’re not where you were.
you’re not yet where you’re going.
you’re building a bridge in midair with your bare hands— while trying to carry the weight of your calling and also, somehow, keep your real life intact.
today, it hit me hard.
i felt that familiar pressure to get it all done.
to push through.
to make the most of the day.
to “tend the ground,” as i like to say—because i know what i’m called to build.
but instead of powering through the pressure,
i made a decision:
closeness over productivity.
i closed the tab with my to-do list.
and opened my Bible to Hebrews 10.
and there it was—verse 16.
“I will fasten My words to their thoughts and inscribe them on their hearts.”
and suddenly, i remembered:
my thoughts are not just mental. they’re spiritual.
the pressure i feel is not just emotional—it’s warfare.
and when i feel overwhelmed, the answer isn’t always to “do more”—it’s to align deeper.
because thoughts are not passive—they are the first front of spiritual warfare.
the enemy rarely shows up in dramatic ways.
he shows up in your mind.
a whisper of doubt.
a spiral of fear.
a lie disguised as logic.
a mental loop that keeps you stuck and spinning.
and if you don’t recognize it, you’ll start calling the spiral “reality” when it’s actually a distraction.
this is why the Bible tells us to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
because if you don’t interrupt your thoughts with truth, they’ll interrupt your purpose.
your mind needs the Word of God fastened to it—not just for comfort, but for clarity.
so you can stay focused.
so you can stay aligned.
so you can keep tending the ground and nurturing what God’s given you.
because, the truth is, when your thoughts spiral—you stall.
we’ve all been there.
where your mind is spinning so hard, you can’t get anything done.
you can’t build. you can’t dream. you can’t show up.
not because you’re weak—but because your thoughts have been hijacked.
and that’s why this matters:
in this season, your job is to prepare the ground.
to keep building the bridge between what was and what’s coming next. and you cannot afford to let unaligned thoughts derail what Heaven is trying to grow through you.
i thought of Elijah.
how he prophesied rain when the sky was still clear.
how he didn’t panic.
how he didn’t chase clouds or try to control the outcome.
he just bowed low, stayed faithful, and prayed.
seven times.
he didn’t make the rain come.
he just tended the ground.
and that’s what i needed to remember today:
the rain is not my responsibility.
i was never called to produce rain—i was called to prepare for it.
i don’t have to manufacture abundance.
i don’t have to force open doors.
i don’t have to prove how worthy i am of harvest.
i just have to tend the ground and allow my work to become communion with God—
by inviting the Holy Spirit into the creative process,
by honoring my assignments instead of rushing outcomes,
by approaching my work as if it’s prayer—with persistence and posture.
i’m not tending the ground to earn rain.
i’m tending the ground because God said it will rain.
i’m being a steward—preparing.
my job is the assignment:
to remain close to God,
to trust Him.
everything else is on Him.
the deadlines don’t define my destiny.
my worth isn’t measured by my output.
and i don’t need to hustle for what God has already promised.
so if you’re in the gap—between what was and what is—
if your mind feels loud and your heart feels heavy,
if the pressure to perform is whispering, “do more or else”—
just take a breath.
and remember:
you were never meant to make it rain.
you were called to tend.
to pray.
to stay close to God—
even in the silence, even in the pressure.
and to let the Word of God fasten itself to your thoughts—
so that when the clouds roll in and the rain comes,
the ground is prepared.
so, today, in case you needed the reminder:
you are not behind.
you are not forgotten.
you are not late.
you are in process—
and Heaven knows exactly where to find you.
take authority over your thoughts.
fasten them to God’s Word.
don’t let the pressure you feel in this moment override you.
don’t let the weight of your to-do list convince you that you’re behind.
stop chasing peace through productivity—
you’ll find peace when you draw close to God,
aligning with His heart and posture.
let God’s truth interrupt your spirals.
let His presence reset your pace.
let your mind come back into alignment—
so you can tend the ground without fear, without rush, without shame.
you don’t need to do more to feel okay.
you don’t have to force the rain.
you don’t have to prove your worth.
you don’t have to earn what God has already decided to give.
God is not watching your output—He is watching your posture.
and your quiet yes still carries weight in the Kingdom.
keep tending the ground.
keep showing up in obedience.
keep aligning your thoughts with what He already said—
even in the silence, even in the pressure.
because the clouds are forming.
and the rain is coming.
and when it does—
it will fall on a field you’ve been faithfully preparing all along.
don’t quit now.
this is holy ground.
and you are right on time.

p.s. if this met you where you are today, forward it to a friend who’s in the in-between. the kind of friend who’s building something by faith and just needs someone to remind them: you’re doing better than you think.
